The internet is a wonderful thing, full of all kinds of knowledge and insight.
And also full of all kinds of crackpots and lunacy. The problem with the internet and it’s algorithms is once you settle on one thing, the internet thinks that is the thing you like. So if you look at a crackpot website, it suggests other crackpot website, with no commentary or discernment on the value of the content. Is it fact or opinion? Is it researched and checked, or is it someone repeating something they heard elsewhere. Well, ultimately, it’s up to you, but we recommend looking at positive sites, listening to affirming words, watching balanced Youtubes. That way, you will get more of it.
For starters, here’s some suggested sites that we at CWBC like. These have been suggested and recommended from various people in the church and may well offer various viewpoints. Take a look, and let us know what you think (unless you too are a crackpot, in which case, don’t let us know what you think).
These links are a mix of websites, social media, videos and podcasts. Have a wander through and see where you end up. We recommend you avoid any of those shouty, judgmental ones that say you should be angry with certain people, or that you are awful, everything is awful, the world is ending soon and God is angry about everything. Look for sites that encourage you to grow into grace, to tolerate and love others, especially people who are poorer or from different faiths, and that encourage you to think and question (rather than telling you what to think).
Bible stuff
We love the Bible. It’s God-Breathed, it tells the story of God and the human race, it contains ancient wisdom. It’s also got some pretty crazy stuff in there as well. A lot of it isn’t really suitable for kids, so Sunday School Theology isn’t always very helpful. Read it with caution and read it intelligently!
Spirituality
How you express your faith is important. It’s not a theoretical subject. We learn our faith by living it.
Theology and Thinking
Not just opinion. Lived experience is a crucial part of the life of faith, and so is considered thinking, research and study.
